New potato freshness sachets and barbecue vegetable kit

Following the successful launch of 1kg sachets of new potatoes in spring 2016, Prince de Bretagne has created a new packaging for them this year. Prince de Bretagne’s new potato producers are based on the Northern coast of Brittany and their Breton identity cannot be missed on the 1kg sachets of Primabreizh potatoes with their Breton graphics.

Pierre Gélébart, Product Manager at Prince de Bretagne, says that "the “freshness” sachets contain 100% fresh potatoes that have been calibrated, washed and packaged by Prince de Bretagne". They can be kept for 3-5 days and are sold in the refrigerated fruit and vegetable aisle of supermarkets. He explains that as the potatoes breathe, they modify the atmosphere in the sachet, allowing for longer storage. The 1kg sachets are packed on 12 piece crates.

Last year, Prince de Bretagne sold about 50 tons of the new potatoes, and they hope to have an even bigger success this year. The product was sold in many large French supermarkets that were interested in continuing to market the potatoes this year. Supermarkets offering the new Primabreizh sachets include Carrefour, Leclerc, Géant, Casino, Intermarché, Système U and Cora. RRP: less than €2/sachet.

With 71% of French households owning a barbecue, Prince de Bretagne is also launching a brand new vegetable kit specially designed for barbecues. It is the first product that they are working on in this range and with vegetables representing 13%** of barbecued foods, it is a practical solution for consumers.

The 450g aluminium punnet contains one vine of 6-8 cocktail tomatoes and 4/5 mini red, yellow or orange peppers, enough for 2/3 people as a side dish. It comes with a dose of rosemary infused extra virgin olive oil to sprinkle on the vegetables after rinsing and before cooking. The vegetables do not need to be chopped or sliced, once cooked, the mini peppers can be enjoyed whole and the grains come off with the stem. The heat-resistant kit can be enjoyed after being placed directly on the barbecue for about 15 minutes, but can also be cooked in the oven or on a plancha.

Marine Bougeard, Product Manager at Prince de Bretagne, explains that the aim is to introduce consumers to other ways of enjoying tomatoes and mini peppers. “At the moment, in France, the majority of tomato consumption is cold, so the aim is to show that they can be enjoyed hot. Lots of people don’t necessarily know what mini peppers are and confuse them with chili peppers. The aim this year is for consumers to try the product”.

The vegetables are grown by Prince de Bretagne’s producers in greenhouses on the Northern coast of Brittany. The kit has just been launched and Prince de Bretagne hopes for it to be available over the whole barbecue season, until October. They are aiming for a RRP between €3-€4.50 per punnet.
