"The project was first thought up during Expo 2015 in Milan, when the newborn economies of developing countries were analysed. Development should focus on urban and rural (re)generation driven by exotic fruit crops," explains Antonio Martina.

The project will see the construction of a processing and storage warehouse, the production of mango puree and the opening to new market. It also includes energy self-production and water treatment systems.

"Progetto Gaia is a start-up working in the integrated planning sector. Its main mission is to devise green solutions for a cautious use of the land and rural regeneration by employing the best technologies available."

The model presented at Macfrut can process up to 150 tons/day and is made up of a metal frame with insulating panels and photovoltaic panels.

Then there are also areas equipped with cold storage units and storing units and a facility with microbiological labs, offices, meeting spaces, a canteen, changing rooms and services.

A nursery will also be available to young mothers as well as systems to generate energy from renewable sources, treat water and generate bio-gas.
