Mango producers of the Northern area will begin harvesting and packaging in June. Producers have very good expectations for the 2017 mango harvest, and expect to export 45 thousand tons of mango to the United States.
Daniel Ibarra Lugo, the President of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Mango in the area that is free of fruit fly, said that they expected to achieve a very good fruit quality this year thanks to good care and phytosanitary management that the producers performed in their orchards after being trained by specialists.
Start of activities
He also said that they would start activities next month, which is why they were getting the first packaging ready and properly conditioned to begin this year's work on time.
He said that the free of fruit fly area, which consists of 5 municipalities in the North of the State, produced Kent, Keith, Haden, and Ataulfo mango varieties, which are harvested according to their different production cycles, as some are early varieties and others are late ones.
He also said the orchards had a good development and that they were confident that they would achieve a good yield, due to the fruit's good development.
