China: Ginger export prices on the rise

"Since the beginning of May, the export price of ginger has been rising steadily at around 7 to 8% per week. Judging from the current situation, such a trend will continue in the coming months. It's unlikely to fall between May and July at any rate", said Jason from Anqiu Tailai Food Ltd,

Farmers working in the plantation

"The first reason behind the rising price is that many people are expecting it to keep rising and thus they increase the purchase volume and make sure they have more ginger in stock. Secondly, farmers have the same expectation of the price and are reluctant to sell. These factors working together create a trend for ever rising prices."
