Cold weather not halting Ukrainian veg supply

The cold weather doesn't seem to have hurt the supply of early vegetables in Ukraine. The wholesale of domestic early cabbage, radish and cucumbers has increased, along with cauliflower, courgette and beetroots.

"This availability does seem to have had an affect on prices, which is, on average, 25-30% lower than last year. However, May is typically the month where price declines occur." shared Tetiana Getman from 'Info-Shuvar'.

Common vegetables, such as onions, potatoes, carrots and cabbage also continue to decline, based on increased supplies.

"In comparison with the beginning of May last year, prices for cabbage have increased by one third, while potatoe prices have almost doubled. Onions and carrot prices have stayed the same, while beetroot is being sold for half the price." said Tetiana.

"The price range for particular vegetables has been vast due to the uneven quality of what is on offer. High quality vegetables are sold at a price on average 1.5 times higher than substandard vegetables. But the supply of substandard products increased in the market last week as the farms and household farmers are selling the remains of produce that they had been keeping in storage since last autumn."
