Good demand for Spanish bell peppers, but supply too high to get prices up

There is a lot of demand on the bell pepper market at the moment. Enough is being sold as well. Yet, according to a bell pepper seller, due to the large volume, it is difficult to get the market up. "The three auctions are overflowing with bell peppers. Fortunately, the quality of the bell peppers are good and this vegetable is in high demand in Italy, Scandinavia, England and the East block countries.

Red peppers prices are between 1,15-1,20 euro at the moment. Fine green ones are selling for 1,15-1,20 euros and light ones for between 1 en 1,05 euro. Orange peppers are going for 1,10 euro, while yellow peppers prices are between 90 cents and one euro. "We saw an sudden increase of the light- weight products, making the heavier ones more expensive."

There is still, however, competition for this Spanish product and next week sufficient volumes are expected. Less product is expected in week 21 and traders are watching the pre-sales with regard to Ascension week and the Pentecost.
