Emilia-Romagna technicians assess the damage caused by recent hailstorms

Technicians from the local agriculture, hunting and forestry services of Regione Emilia-Romagna are at work to identify the areas most affected by the heavy hailstorms, rainfall and strong winds that hit the region over the past few days, causing serious damage to crops and structures.

The objective is to quantify losses as soon as possible and plan an intervention to restore the damage. "However, the Solidarity Fund can only be used in case of non-insurable events, so any damage caused by hail, wind and rain is not covered by the fund," explain technicians.

In addition, the Fund can only be used when the damage exceeds 30% of the gross saleable production of the three or five previous years (in the second case, excluding the two years with the highest and lowest Gsp).

"Out technical personnel moved immediately to inspect the area. As soon as this phase is over and should all conditions be met, we will activate the National solidarity fund, which includes subsidies and/or loans as well as special terms for the payment of contributions," explains Regional Councillor for Agriculture Simona Caselli.

"Should this not be the case, the damage caused by the events of the past few days may be covered by law 296/2006 for the concession of subsidies and tax relief."

According to a first estimate, the damage concerned mostly orchards and vineyards, wheat fields, onion crops and medicinal herbs.
