Increased supply of Ecuadorian pitahaya from next week

“Ecuador has five seasons of yellow pitahaya, of which three are with big volumes and two seasons with smaller volumes. During the past three weeks the supply of this fruit was very low, however, we are happy to announce that in about one week, we will start the new harvest and supply levels will be sufficient to meet our client´s demand”, states Gabriela Vallejo from Ecuafields Ecuador.

The Ecuadorian Department of Agriculture has been promoting the fruit's entrance to China and the United States, where a high demand for pitahaya is expected. However, shipment, without squashing or spoiling the fruit, can be a challenge. "We hope to be able to export to these two markets soon. In terms of logistics, we are studying the possibility to export to the US by sea, as the distance isn't as long as to Asia," continues Gabriela.

Ecuafields is a family owned company that exports premium fruit, specializing in exotic fruits, including yellow dragon fruit, mango, tamarillo, physalis and granadilla. The company is dedicated to the production, packaging, and export to the most demanding markets. This results in a constant growth of the company and brand.

Gabriela explains that some people aren’t aware of what the fruit actually is, but most people are attracted to it. “Our biggest advantage is our physical presence in China. Asia is a big market and we are able to grasp its tendencies faster. We meet face to face with all of our customers, we speak their language, understand their needs and in this way we can offer a better overall customer service.”

“Asian people are always looking for new and healthier food options to add to their diets”, says Gabriela. “Due to the digestive and medicinal properties of dragon fruit, this fruit is among the most nutritious and wonderful fruits. Chinese people have used pitahaya for hundreds of years as a natural aid to help facilitate digestion and
decrease cholesterol. Some research has indicated that pitahaya helps to prevent certain cancers and diabetes. The combination of these health benefits, along with its refreshing sweet taste are the promise of an ever-increasing presence in these distant markets.”

“After our experience in Asia, we’re much more willing to explore new markets, we will be present at the CPMA Convention and Trade Show from May 9th to 11th in Toronto, Canada. It is Canada’s largest fresh fruit event. We want to take this unique opportunity to invite all international representatives from the produce supply chain to visit our booth #1744”, concludes Gabriela.
