Photo Report Agritrade Guatemala 2017

Last week, Guatemala hosted the 18th edition of Agritrade; a fair that features many sectors. Representing the fruit and vegetable sector, there was a wide range of Guatemalan exhibitors, as well as international companies, including producers of beans, peas, mangoes, papayas and avocados. The event was also attended by seed house suppliers and packaging and logistics companies.

Although this fair is much smaller than, say, Fruit Logistica, it is interesting to note that visitors and exhibitors enjoy it. The number of visitors is not negligible and, especially during the first day, the site was very crowded, although the official figures are not yet known. Also noteworthy is the beautiful location of the fair; a context conducive to doing business.

It is said that Guatemalan producers, exporters and suppliers practically all know each other, and for them, this represents an opportunity to meet international visitors. An international exhibitor who has participated for the first time assures that this fair has exceeded their expectations, with good contacts being made with both Guatemalan and international visitors. Participants included buyers from the United States and neighbouring countries of Central America, but also from Europe, such as Spain, for example.

The fair is also marked by the high demand for business in the avocado category. Another important subject in the conferences was the business with the United States. Issues such as exporting to the United States were addressed in light of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), as well as the trends and opportunities for organic food in the United States and the main trends in fresh fruits and vegetables in the United States, Canada and Europe.

In the coming days, we will publish articles about the presentations held in the framework of Agritrade.
