Dennis van Tricht, AGF-Direct:

“Room for Dutch winter cauliflower on the market”

The Dutch cauliflower season has started again. “Beautiful sixes,” says Dennis van Tricht from AGF-Direct from Zwaagdijk. “There’s mostly interest form the domestic market for the first Dutch winter cauliflower. These are the first varieties and volumes are limited, but we expect volumes will increase from week 14.”

The trader expects room for the Dutch cauliflower on the market in the coming weeks. “Yesterday, 100,000 boxes of cauliflower were auctioned in France, but that will just become less, and supply from Spain will also start decreasing. We will continue with this cauliflower until early May. Then we’ll have two weeks without supply from the Netherlands, and demand will have to be met by imported cauliflower, before we continue the season with the first Dutch potted cauliflower mid-May.”

“The cauliflower season went well for a while at first, but then it became considerably less. As regards numbers, it wasn’t great for a while. I expect Spanish production won’t be back at its usual level for another ten days,” Dennis continues. “Quality of the Dutch winter cauliflower, on the other hand, is remarkably good, even better than last year. Of course, it hasn’t really been cold. Anything can happen, naturally, but for now, the cauliflower is doing well.”
