Beatriz Gómez, CEO at Grupo Govifres:

"Spain: "Purchase price almost higher than sale price"

There are three products to which this all-female Huelva-based company is devoted: citrus fruits, berries and stonefruit. "We sell the products directly from the producer, although we take care to ensure that all quality controls and standards are met, and we look after the logistics, as well," states Beatriz Gómez, CEO at Grupo Govifres.

In recent years, they have been observing the different choices that the markets are making. Consequently, they are shipping mainly oranges, blueberries and strawberries to the United Arab Emirates; strawberries to France and Italy (although it also depends on the production of these same countries) and oranges also to Italy. Moreover, markets like Malaysia are strongly emerging and increasingly demanding Spanish products.

As for prices, the weather has had a great impact. "For oranges, the purchase price is almost more expensive than the sale price," explains Gómez. Meanwhile, "Strawberry prices have been very variable because the climate has been cold, which has resulted in a low production," she affirms. Furthermore, "prices soared, although they have already gone down and stabilised a little," concludes Gómez.
