Italy: Rosaria PO part of a project to conquer the international market

The number of operators who are part of the Rosaria Producer Organisation and its turnover have grown over the years. Most of all, the organisation has seen an increase in the value conveyed to the product thanks to a strategy based on two elements - quality and communication.

OP Rosaria was founded thanks to the experience Giuseppe Pannitteri, father of Salvatore and Aurelio, and started growing in the 1960s, when he established the family business. He later passed on a passion for pigmented oranges to his sons.

In 2005, the Pannitteri brothers introduced the Rosaria brand, which became known to the greater public thanks to a strong campaign on the national media. People seem to really appreciate the organoleptic and nutraceutical qualities of blood oranges.

Due to this success, the fruit started to be stocked by many retailers, until Salvatore and Aurelio realised the importance of working together with their producers. This is how the Producer Organisation was born in 2008.

Working together, producing high-quality fruit, investing in communication and obtaining results for the local territory are the main objectives of a PO that has grown a lot over the past eight years.

A study conducted by the University of Bologna in 2015 revealed that Rosaria is one of the main brands recognised on a national level. Consumers require its produce online too, with sales increasing considerably during this past campaign. Rosaria blood oranges are in fact delivered in just 48 hours.

There are around thirty producers who are part of the PO, covering around 600 hectares in total and growing the Tarocco, Moro and Sanguinello varieties

Cultivating 25 hectares each on average, producers are committed to respecting the image conveyed by PO communications and supporting investments for advertising.

Thanks to the specifications, Rosaria blood oranges respect both the environment and consumers. They are easily recognisable from their sticker and packaging and reach stores perfectly ripe.

In addition to widening its distribution network in Italy, Rosaria is working to expand its network abroad together with other local POs.

This year, business network 'People of Sicily' was created with the support of Distretto Agrumi di Sicilia and in cooperation with ICE to commercialise Sicilian citrus fruit on the Polish market. A Polish buyer delegation visited the plant over the past few days.
