China: Xianmen carrot exports fell 80%

In the first month of this year, Xianmen city exported 3855 tons of fresh carrots, for a value of $2 million and 30 thousand - falls of 79% and 77% respectively. Due to the influence of Typhoon Meranti, last September, planting was delayed for about six weeks and the crop was late getting to market. Domestic carrots were stockpiled in other areas which led to low prices, which was another reason for the sharp drop in carrot exports this year.
