Value of Peruvian grape exports fell by 8% in 2016

The Association of Exporters (ADEX) stated that grape exports in 2016 decreased by 8% and only amounted to $650,673,000 because of a delay in the grape season caused by climate change.

The manager of agricultural business for Adex, Paula Carrion, said that they had allocated a portion of their export to the domestic market so as to achieve more competitive prices. "The total volume shipped was also affected as the country exported 288,178 tons last year, i.e. 8% less than in the previous year", she said.

The United States was the main market
Despite achieving a lower turnover in their purchases (-8%), the US continued to be the biggest market, among the 60 countries to which Peru exported Peruvian grapes last year. The US made purchases of table grapes worth $244,277,000, and accounted for 38% of total shipments.

Other important destinations were the Netherlands (US $ 71,173,000), Hong Kong (US $ 62,430,000), and China (US $53,345,000). They also highlighted the country's new destinations, which were achieved thanks to the country's participation in international fairs and business intelligence work. These included Finland, Jordan, Turkey, Nicaragua and Ireland, to which Peru still ships small quantities of grapes.
