Arno van den Oord, Champoord:

“Mushroom production has been scarce all year”

The mushroom market is currently being characterised by slightly less supply and a decent demand. “Productions have actually been somewhat scarce all year already,” says Arno van den Oord from mushroom and bean sprouts wholesaler, Champoord from Ammerzoden, the Netherlands. “Productions will not suddenly increase. Because of the weather, supply from Poland will also not be too high. Market prospects are looking positive for the coming weeks.”

“We cannot complain. Prices vary between 1.60 and 1.80 euro per kilogram, so that is quite a nice level. Our sales are mainly focused on the UK, Germany, Belgium and the domestic market. Despite the political situation in the UK, demand continues to be fairly good. Some customers are buying a bit less, but others are ordering as usual. We will have to wait and see how the situation will develop.”
