Egyptian participation at Fruit Logistica

With the support of the Ministry of Trade & Industry and the Ministry of Agriculture & Land Reclamation, the Agricultural Export Council (AEC) in alliance with the Egypt Expo & Convention Authority (EECA), has organized the Egyptian pavilion at Fruit Logistica.

The Egyptian pavilion this year is considered one of the largest Egyptian pavilions ever to participate in this exhibition, at around 1575sqm, through which 90 Egyptian companies will present their products of high quality fruits and vegetables.

Chairman, Abdel Hamid Demerdash of AEC, emphasized the importance of Egyptian exporters to be present at such events and trade fairs as it is an open gate for international existence which will, in return, have positive returns for the economic growth of Egypt.

Egyptian Agricultural Exports reached US $2.1 billion in season 2015/2016 where the fresh fruits represent the top agricultural exports of Egypt which reached around US $1 billion. Citrus, pomegranate, grapes and strawberries are the leading fruit exports.

Fresh vegetables come next in the ranking. They reached around US $700 million. Onions, potatoes, tomatoes and green beans are the leading vegetables exports.

As for the major markets, Saudi Arabia comes in the top ranking for importing the Egyptian fresh produce, followed by the Russian Federation, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and England.

There also positive indications for the future, as this promising sector in Egypt is pumping up new investments and also establishing several new packing stations, according to the international specifications, and especially in the European markets.

To continue this growth, the AEC focuses on a variety of activities such as management and technical training for the Egyptian exporters on the quality standards; international standards; technology & knowhow; transfer logistics & speedy transportation of the crops to the world on time and with high quality. As well as linkage with importers, market studies & intelligence and the organization of trade fairs and missions.

Demerdash declared that Egypt is growing steadily with a positive rate, according to the set plan of the council, in harmony with the developing strategy of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and with the support of all the various state organizations.

Currently, the AEC with the help of all stakeholders in the country is aiming at opening new markets for Egyptian agricultural exports. Egypt has succeeded in opening the Chinese market and many other markets in the Far East for the citrus and grapes exports, as well as the Australian market. And it also seeks to open new markets, such as Japan and some Latin American countries for grapes, citrus and Egyptian dates.

Soon the exports of pomegranate, potatoes & onions will be also allowed for export to the Chinese market, where Egypt will be able to introduce its quality products to this potentially huge market.

Africa is also one of the targeted markets for 2017, where a strategic plan is set to start an export plan to Africa making use of the various trade agreements of Egypt.
