"Spain: "We'll produce less than half the amount of sweet potatoes this year"

According to Juan Mellado, of the Juan Mellado SA company, this year's sweet potato production was affected by the weather, the great competition in the area, and the variety offered by the main competitor, Portugal. "Brazil and Argentina are other competing countries that should be taken into account, but their product can't compete with our products freshness in the European market because they are so far away," said Mellado. 

Juan Mellado SA collects it sweet potatoes by hand when they are perfectly ripe and exports them to England, France, Switzerland, and Norway, mainly. This company, however, hasn't always exported sweet potatoes. They have been planting and building their infrastructure depending on consumer demand. The company has sold potato, yams, and even different types of flowers.
