Prices could start going up

Spain: Acceptable first stage of raspberry campaign

There are three stages into which the current Spanish raspberry campaign could be divided: the first stage is finishing with acceptable results in terms of quality and average in terms of demand and prices, with a lower yields per plant compared to last season, mostly due to the high temperatures during the summer, which have also greatly delayed the harvests.

Price oscillation has also been noteworthy for most of this first period, and consumption has not yet become stable. While prices are currently not at their best, they are expected to rise in the next few weeks.

The most negative part of this first stage came as a result of the severe storms accompanied by tornados in November, which led to quality issues and difficulties in the marketing.

The most positive aspect is that Huelva retains its strong position as a supplier over other producing countries, like Morocco or Portugal, whose volumes are much less significant.
