Dennis van Tricht, AGFdirect:

“Cauliflower prices approaching ten euros”

The sales of broccoli are suffering due to the heavy rain last month in Spain, and that has also been noticed by AGFdirect. Supply of broccoli is low because of the quality. Quality and supply of cauliflower is currently at a good level. However, Dennis van Tricht does not want to make any predictions for the coming weeks.

The rainfall is bound by area. AGFdirect works with cultivators in various countries. For example, they also work with France, Italy and Greece. That is why they have not been bothered by the bad Spanish weather yet. “I have plenty of cauliflower at the moment, but it is becoming more difficult,” Dennis says. “Plenty of people want to do promotions with cauliflower. That is still possible this week, but I am afraid I cannot give prices for the next two or three weeks.” Quality of the cauliflower is still good, according to Dennis, although he did hear about a batch of French cauliflower that was sent back because of the bad quality. Dennis: “Harvesting is in full swing now, so you can score points if you can deliver quality. Prices are also increasing, French cauliflower was already approaching ten euro.”

The trade in broccoli has been affected by the bad weather, and is at a low level for AGFdirect. “I now have nothing in the fields, and I try to keep stocks of broccoli low, shelf life is very mediocre at the moment,” Dennis concludes.
