According to the director of Development of International Markets at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Jose Eyzaguirre, Peruvian exports to the Nordic countries (Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, and Norway) could grow by 7% in 2017.
Eyzaguirres added that, during 2016, the country had developed projects to diversify Peruvian exports, especially of non-traditional agricultural products (asparagus, artichokes, quinoa and others).
He said they had accumulated sales for more than seven million soles in 23 biodiversity, sustainable value chains, with over 6,000 beneficiaries in 15 regions.
"We've managed to position products, such as the pineapple from the VRAEM or the quinoa from Puno, into new markets in the Nordic countries," he said.
Eyzaguirre acknowledged that it was complicated to establish trade relations with the countries located in the Nordic region of Europe, but highlighted the role of the Peruvian-Nordic Chamber of Trade as a facilitator of information to investigate the needs and commercial possibilities of the area.
He also said that the joint work with the Peruvian-Nordic Trade Chamber would allow them to increase their trading relationships with Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, so that new products, such as cocoa from Piura and Cusco, could access the Nordic market; which would generate new opportunities for thousands of Peruvians.
