Russia considering lifting boycott of various Turkish vegetables
The boycott of Turkish bell pepper, aubergines, pumpkin and lettuce may soon be lifted, according to Sergey Dankvert, head of the Rosselkhoznador, the phytosanitary service of Russia. He also indicated the negotiations regarding tomatoes have been postponed. This was reported by the Russian news agency Tass.
“We talked about aubergines, bell pepper, pumpkin and lettuce,” he said when asked which products were under discussion. According to Dankvert, Turkey also wants to supply tomatoes from Antalya, but Russia is not interested. The Russians just want to do business with major exporters because they can better guarantee food safety.
The Minister of Agriculture earlier said the boycott of Turkish products will probably not be lifted before the end of the year. On 6 December, Turkey and Russia discussed the end of the boycott. According to Russia, Turkey is not yet ready to meet all of the requirements.
