Total Produce

UK: September market report

Pumpkins
In this month's Total Produce market report pumpkins are top of the bill. According to the the report there are already quite a few pumpkins coming on to the markets and there should be a good supply in the lead up to Halloween.

Turkish figs
Turkish figs should be plentiful as we are mid-season, but this is not the case. Supplies are down and if you can find them they are expensive. This is because UK fig prices were so low at the beginning of the season that Turkish growers stopped sending them.

Topfruit
Early British pears are starting to appear but it’ll be towards the end of the month before they really get going. Most of these will be Conference. There are many different varieties of apples around just now, and also some early quinces from France and a few UK grown.

Pomegranates
There is a good supply from Spain and Turkey and this should
continue through the winter.

More from Spain
The first custard apples from Spain are on the markets and the first Spanish persimmons, or kaki, are expected by the end of the month.

Melons
Supply is switching to the southern hemisphere, mostly South America, and prices will inevitably increase.

Artichokes
French Jerusalem artichoke prices are still falling and the this will continue as the season progresses.
