Strawberries and raspberries from Viveros California

Marisol is meeting expectations both in Italy and abroad. Growers who tried it last year have increased cultivated areas, meaning the variety has become the one with the best growth prospects.

"We believe that, if we place it well on the market, then consumers will learn how to recognise it and ask for it, especially since it is one of the best strawberry varieties," explain Mario and Marco Magnani from Mia sas.

A note reads: "Viveros California S.L. would like to thank its collaborators for the excellent work carried out and it is sure that many great years lie ahead for this variety."

San Rafael raspberries
Viveros California, with its technician Javier Marrufo, Mia sas technicinas and local collaborators, is also working on an initiative to discover the characteristics of a new raspberry variety called "San Rafael".

Producers showed a lot of interest and asked many questions at the various meetings.

As described in previous publications, "San Rafael" has large fruits, a great flavour and a long shelf-life. In addition, it can be harvested in two different periods in central and southern Italy, i.e. January-March and March-May -months when there are not a lot of raspberries on the market.

In the south of Spain, around 800 of the 2,000 hectares dedicated to raspberry production are of a non-remontant variety, like San Rafael. Cultivation is increasing, a clear sign of its popularity on the market. Producers are interested due to the big fruits (5/6 grams average weight), high productivity and, most of all, excellent flavour.

This year, greenhouse tests will be carried out in Terracina, Scanzano Jonico and Policoro.
