Myanmar plans to expand its watermelon export to China

Ne Win, the President of the Myanmar Watermelon & Cantaloupe Plantation & Sales Association, said that this year Myanmar watermelons have been successfully planted during the cultivation season, and some of them will come to market in October, while the majority of the watermelon output will follow, between November and December. In general, a large number of watermelons from Myanmar are exported abroad - during previous years its export volume reached 560,000 tons, and is expected to reach to 600,000 tons this year.

He further explained that China is the major export country for Myanmar watermelons. Due to the rapid economic development of China, watermelon supply exceeds the market needs, which leads to higher inspection standards. Consequently, the Myanmar Watermelon & Cantaloupe Plantation & Sales Association has adopted appropriate systems for seed, land and planting methods. Furthermore, some foreign technical staff have been employed to help improve the quality of their imported watermelon.
