Japanese State Secretary visits bell pepper cultivator Valstar
On Monday 19 September, Japanese State Secretary Ken Saito, visited bell pepper cultivator Valstar in De Lier, accompanied by Mayor Van der Tak and councillor Weverling.
“It was special to note that this State Secretary had read a lot about this topic. Japanese horticulture would love to take steps towards modern, western horticulture. However, for several reasons, of which he is partially aware, but about which he asked for our thoughts, they are unable to,” according to the brothers Valstar on their Facebook page.
“This time, our visitor was allowed to climb ‘into the car,’ rather than on top. He could therefore enjoy the view of the entire greenhouse over the crops. It was a small, funny moment, for it involved some climbing.”
“It was an afternoon of serious conversations but also of many smiling faces. In our opinion the visit is worth repeating. Who knows what could happen because of this visit. It would be wonderful if the Westland horticulture sector could boost the agrarian sector in Japan.”
