Italy: New tech cushions growers against post-harvest losses

Fruits and vegetable growers in Italy have a reason to smile as new preservation technology by Janny MT Italy seeks to cushion them against post-harvest losses.

Janny MT, which specialises in fresh fruits and vegetables preservation technology, was recently on a tour to Italy where it representatives met with producers among other stakeholders.

During the tour between July and August, producers of apples, pears, kiwi, berries and vegetables received personalised lessons on the technology that seeks to reduce post-harvest losses which are a nightmare for growers.

“The equipment by Janny Mt responds to a need that growers have grappled with for many years especially after harvesting their produce. One of the key issues the technology seeks to address is quality, which is affected when fruits and vegetables aren’t preserved under the right atmospheric conditions.”

Janny MT specialises in preservation technology which offers quality and positive economic effects to the operators during harvest time or selling time.

“Returns from these conservations are good, producers point out the flexibility on sales as they don’t have to worry about their fruits or vegetables going bad as they can also maintain supply throughout the year.”

With Italy being the second largest producer of pears and kiwi and fourth in apples, adoption of this powerful strategic preservation technology cannot be underestimated.

Farmers who partner with Janny MT will receive technical monitoring for the establishment of their first uses of the modules.

To go further in this process, Janny MT requested Agrion and Piedmont technicians to organise a trip to France early next year to get a more personal experience on the preservation technology.

“These moments of exchange will be there to better understand post-harvest, answer qualitative conservation issues and provide an overall approach to conservation modes. The goal is to create a dynamic link between French and Italian producers to better manage production through post-harvest.”
