Nearly 30 Peruvian exporters participated in the Asia Fruit Logistica, the fruit and vegetable fair, which was held in Hong Kong between September 7 and the 9.
The participating companies expect to achieve export business of $120 million dollars, which would represent a 20% increase over last year.
Hass avocados were the product with the biggest demand, especially because China has allowed their entry into their market since last year. Table grapes, citrus, mangoes, blueberries and pomegranates were other products that had a high demand from Asian buyers, mainly from China, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, India, Malaysia, Russia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. Moreover, there's been great expectations as Peruvian blueberries will soon enter the Chinese market.
The Peruvian delegation, mostly from Piura, Ica, Lima and La Libertad, was composed of the Agricola Athos Company, Agricultural business La Grama, Camposol, Danper, Ecosac Agricola, Fundo Sacramento, Pedregal, Agro-Industrial Processes (PROAGRO), the AGAP association and its unions APEM (mangos), ProCitrus (PERU CITRUS), and ProHass and PROVID, which were also present with more than thirty companies. For the third time, ProHass presented a special avocado tasting. The Peruvian pavilion's 204 square-metre area allowed exporters to generate 514 new business contacts.
