"Juan Romera (Zoutewelle): "More kilos expected"

First Spanish courgettes from Escobi have arrived

The new Spanish vegetable season has started at Zoutewelle. “We received the first courgettes from Escobi last Friday,” says Juan Romero of Zoutewelle. The first product in which Escobi specialised was courgettes, now at almost 23 million kilo, followed by peppers and aubergines.

The average price for courgettes and aubergines were lower last season than in 2014. In contrast, the prices for peppers were higher than in 2014. The volumes from Escobi keep on growing every year. “In the last season, Escobi produced almost 3 million kilo more and we expect to export more this year. The right advice, weekly schedules, and selection of only the best quality products, have resulted in the perfect combination of Zoutewelle and Escobi, over the last 12 years,” says Juan Romero.

The products are packaged according to client wishes: either in EPS or cardboard. Sealed courgettes are optional and if ordered, we can even provide round courgettes. “Often we provide the trucks with two drivers, so that the courgettes can be delivered within two days to the client,” says Juan. “This way we can keep to schedule and it gives the client an increased shelf life. It is the same for aubergines and later on in the season for peppers."
