Garlic price surges

Recently consumers find out that garlic is becoming more expensive. Impacted by the limited market supply, the garlic price in Anshan city of Liaoning province increased over 30% on last month, and the highest price was 18 Yuan/kilo, and the price of garlic sprout also rose to 12 Yuan/kilo.

It is known that the garlic price started to rise as of this January, and it reached to it's highest record of 18 Yuan/kilo this March. When new garlic came to the market in May and June, the price decreased and it fluctuated between 12-14 Yuan/kilo. This July, it rose up to 18 Yuan/kilo again.

As for the reason of such price surges, it is mainly due to the reduction of garlic harvest volume this year. Next to this, a lot of garlic wholesalers stock up on arlic for an even higher price, as a result, the garlic market supply fails to meet the consumer demand.
