First bell peppers arrived in China

The first Dutch bell peppers have not just been sent to China, but they have actually arrived as well. They will probably enter the market in Shanghai today due to clearance, but they were already available in Guangzhou on Friday.

Dutch bell peppers in China. It sounds like an exciting boys’ book, and let’s be honest, for the fresh produce sector, it actually is. For years, people have been working on market access for fruit vegetables, and it now appears to have finally happened. Last week we already reported that the bell peppers were on their way to the Chinese market, but we can now add that they have actually arrived. This shipment was a test shipment. If all goes well, the first batches can be exported to China in 2017.

Both bell and pointed peppers, in nice orange boxes, arrived in Guangzhou and Shanghai on Thursday. It is expected that they can be sold in Guangzhou from Friday, but due to customs clearance, they can only be sold from today, Monday, in Shanghai. Fruitday, Supafresh and Metro Supermarkets are the supposed buyers of the first Dutch bell peppers on the Chinese market.
