Interview with Domenico Paschetta

Good start for Ortofruit Italia

"It looks like it will be a positive campaign in terms of quality and prices," reports Ortofruit Italia President Domenico Paschetta.

Consumption has increased this year too, and the blueberry campaign started really well with good prices. "The first varieties are over and we are waiting for the late ones, which will last until Autumn."

The shelf-life of raspberries is quite good. Ortofruit Italia invested in a few varieties that had good results in terms of quality and which received good feedback from retailers. "The campaign of currants, blackberries and wild strawberries is also going very well."

This year, Ortofruit Italia introduced the Deli-Tris packet, where blueberries and raspberries are combined with either strawberries or cherries.

Ortofruit Italia's new packaging: Deli-tris and the two blueberry and raspberry 180g shakers. .

The main reference market continue to be retailers in North-West Italy however, thanks to the post-harvesting research conducted in cooperation with the University of Turin's Disafa, the produce can now be exported to England, Ireland and Germany.

"There are no great problems, except for a few hailstorms that hit us in June."

"There will be an increase in the production of Nergi baby kiwis, and we should reach 300 tons."

Nergi baby kiwis will be available in September, and last year's tests showed interest is quite high, especially since they are perfect as a snack for kids. They taste nice and are rich in vitamin C. The packaging will remain the same, but probably it will also sold in the Deli-Tris option.

"There have been no problems because plants are protected with nets and the species is tolerant to bacteriosis. This fruit has great potential," concludes Domenico Paschetta.

Ortofruit Italia will attend Macfrut 2016 with OP Piemonte.
