New cucumber varieties Jiaotong University

European greenhouse cucumbers are appreciated by the Chinese. Jiaotong University in Shanghai has now announced that a research group has bred new varieties of greenhouse cucumber with autonomous knowledge and property rights.

The research group is the first in China to establish a system for cultivation and technology and has bred 6 cucumber varieties for greenhouses. The annual yield is 24,000 kg per hectare, of which 95% goes on the market. The cucumbers are 10 to 18 centimetres in length and are all female. The skin is glossy, without bumps and is mildew-resistant. The successful breeding of these cucumber varieties brings a big change to the import of cucumbers to China.
