Price and sales of convenience vegetables increase

In 2015 the Swiss retail sold convenience vegetable products to the value of 294 million CHF (302.8 million USD). This is the highest value since the start of the recordings in 2008.

The sales of convenience vegetables, pre-cut, packaged and refrigerated vegetables, have increased on average with 1.3% per year in the period 2008-2015. Despite a stagnating phase between 2011-2014, sales were still higher than of fresh vegetables (1% per year).

In 2015 the sales of convenience vegetables reached 23,677 metric tons, a similar level as in 2009. The average price increased from 11.49 CHF per kg (2008) to 12.42 CHF per kg (2015). This corresponds with an increase of 1.1% per year. The price level of fresh vegetables increased from 7.1 CHF per kg (2008) to 8.23 CHF per kg (2012). The convenience products are about 2.5 to 3 times more expensive than fresh vegetables.

The price fluctuated with a maximal decrease of 0.4% (2008/2009) and an increase of 3.3% (2008/2009). The price fluctuations in fresh vegetables were much clearer and ranged from -7% (2010/2011) to 5.8% (2012/2013).
