Increased availability of German cauliflowers:

Improved German quality competes with import

Cauliflowers
Almost equal volumes of Italian and French cauliflowers dominated the market. The availability of the German cauliflowers increased gradually. And its quality has clearly improved, so the German cauliflowers could compete with the imported products.

Overall the supply was manageable and increased slightly. At the upper margins the prices were lowered several times. However, the prices of the Italian supplies increased at the end the week. Belgian and Spanish supplies were only available in certain locations.

Lettuce
Only Spanish iceberg lettuce reached the market. The availability grew, but the quality left something to be desired, so the prices showed a downward trend.

Cucumbers
The supply of Spanish cucumbers decreased. The supplies from Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium increased.

Tomatoes
The amount of produce from the Mediterranean region clearly decreased. As a result the prices continued to drop.

Sweet peppers
The supply of Dutch and some Belgian and German sweet peppers increased slightly. The supplies from Spain decreased successively.

Asparagus
The supply of white and purple asparagus increased. The prices decreased together with the decrease in demand.

Onions
Onions from New Zealand continued to dominate the trade. The demand for products imported from oversees increased and so the demand for European supplies decreased.

Apples
The import from oversees increased. The interest in apples from the southern hemisphere wasn’t very great; the focus was clearly on the cheaper European apples.

Pears
South Africa dominated the trade. The supply was sufficient to meet the continuous but rather low demand. This meant that the prices didn’t really change.

Grapes
South African supplies mainly dominated. The steady interest was easily satisfied. So the prices barely changed.

Strawberries
Spanish and Italian strawberries still dominated the trade, although their availability decreased slightly. Instead the availability of German and Dutch strawberries increased.

Kiwis
Italian kiwis dominated the trade ahead of the cheaper Greek and the high quality French kiwis. The availability decreases but it was in balance with the continuous demand.

Oranges
The steadily declining supplies and a gradually decreasing interest characterized week 16. The end of the season comes inevitably closer.

Lemons
Spain dominated the trade with Primofiori lemons, while the Verna lemons are still not available. The slightly reduced availability directly influenced the prices in some places.

Bananas
Overall the decrease in interest was quite modest. Due to the balance in the supply and the sales possibilities the prices barely changed.
