Frozen fruit purées and strawberries have landed in Asia

They became the pioneers of frozen fruit when one of the founders, Gualtiero Mazzoni, understood the potential of frozen produce and added it to its line of fresh fruit to supply the processing industry. We are talking about Gruppo Mazzoni, a company that manages the entire production chain of many products - from genetics, production, nursery gardening down to final processing.

"Our frozen food division has a strong history but it is evolving constantly. Our products include fruit purées, frozen fruit, diced fruit and shells. Our group specialises in strawberries - we select the most suitable varieties, reproduce certificated plants and follow the entire productive process in compliance with dedicated protocols down to freezing and the production of dices and purées. Our main objective is to supply high-quality products," explain Nicola Borgatti and Carlo Trevisan, respectively director and sales manager of the segment.

In 2015, Mazzoni Frozen introduced a wide range of purées made in the Tresigallo facility using its own fruit. The purées are packed in 1 to 10 kg packets and are destined to the industry, ice-cream makers and pastry shops. Borgatti explains that "it is not easy to standardise the purée-making process because we do not use additives of any kind. To obtain a product that always tastes the same and has the same characteristics, you need to start with high-quality raw materials and focus on a highly professional productive process."

Visual inspections are added to laser inspections to guarantee the high-quality of the product.

"This is the secret behind the success of our purées all over the world. We had the good idea of presenting the product during the Singapore fair with a dedicated packaging specific for the Asian market. This move impressed our distributors and helped us a lot. We need to think on a global level - we currently sell 15,000 tons of products and have the potential to grow."

Until a few years ago, only France made fruit purées, but now we are leaders on the market too with our 31 products. Our outlet markets are increasing, as we now export also to Arab countries, Far East and North Africa and our distributor network is expanding too.

Peach shells for ice-cream makers and pastry shops.

Thanks to a patented machine, Mazzoni can empty peaches and apples to supply shells that can be garnished with cream and other fruit. The range also includes many other species (blueberries, blackberries, sour cherries, cherries, peaches and apricots) and shapes (diced, sliced and halved) to supply the best solutions to the processing and catering industries.
