Kiwiberries no longer allowed

China AQSIQ updates list with approved import fruit

China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) has released an updated list of fruit approved for imports.

The list also clarifies scientific names of a number of fruit varieties, including New Zealand and Chilean kiwifruit. It now lists both green kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) and gold kiwifruit (Actinidia chinensis). In the past, all kiwifruit was listed under the scientific name of gold kiwifruit.

New Zealand’s list of approved kiwifruit also includes the green-gold hybrid (Actinidia deliciosa×Actinidia chinensis).

Earlier this month, the AQSIC suspended imports of New Zealand kiwiberries. The kiwiberries were originally classified under kiwifruit. Now, it is listed under its scientific name Actinidia arguta, and it is no longer allowed to be imported.
