Clementines from Israel slightly more expensive than the Spanish

“In the beginning of the year we had a lot of produce from Spain. However the Spanish season is almost at its end so we changed to the ORRI variety from Israel,” states Benjamin Becker, manager of the company Hans Becker at the wholesalers market in Düsseldorf. “The demand for clementines, especially those from Israel, continues to be high. Another reason for us to change our offer.” 

The expert from Düsseldorf is very satisfied with the quality. “The clementines from Israel are better than the Spanish. That is why they are slightly more expensive,” tells Becker. Currently Becker sells a 2.5 kg crate for 32 Euro. “The taste of the ORRU is excellent, and it can be peeled easily,” continues the wholesaler, “By comparison the Nadorcott clementine can barely be peeled.”

 

“The expectation is that the ORRI from Israel will be available for two or three months,” tells the manager, “But we continue to match the customers demand, if the interest starts to flag we take the ORRI out of the range.”

“The colder weather has a constant and positive influence on the demand of citrus fruit,” explains the expert, “But how the demand and the supply will develop in the next few weeks is difficult to predict. If the temperatures go up then the demand for citrus fruit will clearly drop. But if it stays cold, then the demand for clementines, oranges etc will remain stable.”
