Geke van der Ven-Gaakeer, The Greenery:

"More products and faster turnaround possible with Gourmet Mix"

During the Fruit Logisitca The Greenery introduced the Gourmet Mix. "Siggi Müller signalled the demand for smaller packaging for catering suppliers among our German Cash&Carry customers. The regular packaging was found to be too big. The concept is now also suitable for retailers. With the Gourmet Mix we are offering one type of packaging with different functions," says Geke van der Ven-Gaakeer.

It started with greenhouse vegetables especially for the Germany market, in which tomatoes play the main role. "There was already a good tomato supply available on the shelves, but there isn't a single shelf policy and appearance. This voids the quality appearance. With the Gourmet Mix the Pick&Mix tomatoes can be presented next to the beef tomatoes more easily," says Geke. The assortment can be extended with peppers, paprika and other seasonal vegetables.

The Gourmet Mix consists of packaging with 1.5 to 2 kilo vegetables. "This packaging line makes putting together a customer specific assortment simpler and also makes extensions to the assortment easier. Buyers can adapt the assortment during the season with one uniform appearance."

"More types of products can be presented on less square metres. The current packaging has a quarter of the packaging of a standard box. This gives the boxes a good turnaround time in the store or wholesalers and so a better quality guarantee for the consumer," concludes Geke.
