Beijing: vegetables stocked for Spring Festival
Currently, Beijing receives 25,000 tons of vegetables on a daily basis. To guarantee adequate vegetable supply during the weeks of the Spring Festival, 13 provinces will start to stock vegetables. This will make it possible to increase vegetable supply to the city by 10% in the coming weeks. The participating provinces include Hebei, Tianjin and Shandong.
The cold weather of the last days has made it hard for fresh produce logistics. Vegetables were brought into the city in special trucks with heated boxes, to ensure the crops were not damaged by frost.
Prices have gone up by 10%. Onion prices have risen particularly high with a 50% increase.
