Europe: Arra seedless grapes win over big retailers

2015 was an extremely positive year for AVI, the company holding the European production and trade rights of patented varieties of Arra seedless grapes developed by the California-based Giumarra.

AVI has in fact started supplying four large European distribution chains, which were very interested in the taste, grade, compactness and thin skin of the Arra variety.

According to AVI, an aspect that must not be overlooked is the low production cost as well as the significant productivity of both white and red cultivars.

Technical manager Maurizio Simone explained that "the lack of programmed implants does not enable us to meet all producer and client demands. The supply of plant material selected by Vitroplant would require a two-year programming."

AVI will attend Fruit Logistica in Berlin (3-5 February 2016), where it will present:
  • An early white cultivar (Arra 30) with oblong grapes, coming from South America and already popular in the UK.
  • An early red cultivar (Arra 29) with rounded grapes with a light-coloured flesh.
  • Other new varieties that have not been codified yet.
You can find AVI in Hall 2.2 Stand A-03, where Paolo Carissimo (President), Rino Storelli (Vice-President), Carlo Lingua (Administrator), Maurizio Simone (Technical manager) and Alessandra Di Pierro (Administration Manager) will welcome visitors.
