Organic Banana exporter Condor Produce SAC recently celebrated its first anniversary and the milestone of one million exported 40 Lbs boxes.
This young company based in Piura in Northern Peru, is managed by Luis Fernando Monge (a 12 yr veteran in organic and food safety certifications at Dole and ex-General Manager of Dole´s banana operations in Peru), and directed by founder Frans Wielemaker (a 34 yr veteran in banana crop protection and production, and ex-director of the Organic Program of Dole and ex-director of R & D at Dole).
"Although a challenge, we had all the knowledge, experience and courage to start our own organic banana export company and knew the local playing field very well. We are happy it has become such a successful enterprise within a year. We have become the largest organic banana export company from Peru to the United States during 2015, by providing Chiquita Brands (under the Chiquita Organic label) and AgroAmerica (under the One Organic label), with an average combined volume of 20 to 25 high-cube containers per week," says Frans Wielemaker. "We have a team of 10 people here at Condor looking after all details and quality control."
Luis Fernando adds, "Condor now also sends a few containers to new clients in Europe and we are looking for more business on this continent, as most of our organic banana producing associations, cooperatives and farmers are FLO Fairtrade certified anyhow, besides Globalgap by Control Union. Condor also has its own designed box and packs private brand or generic Fairtrade and Max Havelaar labeled bananas. We have the whole chain FLO certified, including the parent company Transastra SA, to deliver to the fairtrade tp the European or Transfair to the North American."
He adds, "Condor sells FOB, CIF or CFR, and guarantees on-time delivery of quality organic bananas from the best organic banana growing location in the world, as there are no pests and diseases which inherently implies organic integrity as there is no aerial spraying, and thus no spray-drift either, going on in the Sullana and Piura banana growing areas."
Frans emphasizes that "the important and very much needed added value of Condor is to provide the associations, cooperatives and farmers on the one hand with technical and certification assistance, guaranteed on-time weekly payment and supply of organic fertilizers, while buyers really value the work by Condor done in terms of due diligence, surprise residue testing, ample packing materials inventory, and the overall daily logistics with trucking companies and shipping lines, in order to guarantee on time delivery of top quality US and EU organic rules Globalgap."
