Decrease Shandong cucumber production
Continuous rain led to less production of greenhouse vegetables in Shandong province. As a result, prices of some out-of-season vegetables have been rising.
Bingde Chen, a local farmer, says that the four months between November and March is the best period to market greenhouse vegetables. In these months there is no open ground vegetable production and prices are the highest.
Bingde Chen says:" there was some hazy weather last year, with many rainy days. The biggest problem that this weather creates for greenhouse production is that the time needed to grow becomes longer."
Being influenced by the weather, average prices of vegetables have been increasing. In terms of varieties, the price of out-of-season vegetables, such as cucumber, rape, kidney bean and leek, has been increased the most. Prices of winter vegetables, such as Chinese cabbage, carrot and potato, are comparatively stable.
