Certain veg particularly expensive in September

In September the prices of fruit and vegetables have increased greatly in Germany. This was reported by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (BFS). Especially vegetables that actually are fruit, such as tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, zucchini and bell peppers, increased in price at the end of the summer. And while the price of tomatoes increased just a little, the price of eggplants, cucumbers, zucchini and bell peppers increased quite a lot.

However, the increase in price for tomatoes is significant because tomatoes are sold the most. Hans-Markus Herren from BFS reported that vegetables are often subject to strong price fluctuations. Furthermore the prices for salad and fruit went up too.
