Italy: Unitec presents new division

Unitec Intelligent Packaging is the new UNITEC division specialising in vertical packaging machinery for food (pasta, biscuits, flour, pet food and the fresh-cut range).

"We have introduced four new machines so far and in the future we will also think about how they can be applied to the fresh produce sector though, before we can do that, we need to guarantee a consistent quality of the produce processed first," explained Unitec president Angelo Benedetti.

The press conference.

Thanks to the UNITEC technology and the Ultravision systems in particular, it is already possible to select the various parameters that determine the quality of every single fruit - Brix level, skin defects, internal defects, grades and colour.

"Disappointed customers produce inestimable damage because their behaviour can affect even the future generations. If a mother does not buy fruit because she does not like it, her children will not eat it either. That is why we talk about consistent quality - UNITEC technologies guarantee it leading to customer retention and therefore to increased consumption."

Quality selection is a strategic asset - UNITEC systems enable the planning of offer segmentation, improvement of processing and creation of different export programmes according to the ripening stage of the fruit.

"A single tree can produce fruits of different quality and our technology makes it possible to sort them so they can be destined to the correct market. By mixing all the different fruits together, customers would perceive the supply as inconsistent. Our objective is to improve the image of packing stations in the different markets."

Angelo Benedetti.

In the meantime, the company headquarters in Ravenna are being expanded - a new 3,800 square metre warehouse will be built as well as a 1,400 square metre office building and new courtyards.
