Ecuador produces only fully organic chips worldwide

The first organic snack chips in the world are Ecuadorian. The product's quality was recognized in the latest edition of the Organic and Wellness international journal, which specializes in organic products and is distributed in promotional fairs.

The journal highlights the unique characteristics of the snack elaborated by the Ecuadorian company Platayuc, a company that also produces cassava chips and that acquires its raw material from 180 small producers to whom it provides consulting for proper handling.

According to data from the Institute for the Promotion of Exports and Investments Pro Ecuador, exports of plantain chips account for about 96% of total snack exports in the 2008-2014 period.

Through an official statement from Pro Ecuador, Vinicio Reyes, CEO and cofounder of Platayuc, stated that their plant operates as a collection center to peel plantain and cassava in 3 cold rooms with a capacity for 75,000 kilos, that they export between 25,000 and 50,000 kilos to the US weekly, and that they process these products to make delicious chips in their Guayaquil plant, since it was installed in 2013.

Ecuadorian banana chips have found their way into the international market through Pro Ecuador's 30 sales offices worldwide. The chips won 2nd prize for best packaging in the Food and Beverage Packing category awarded at the 42nd edition of the Creativity International Awards in London.
