Mexican agribusiness made 425 million pesos Expo Alimentaria Peru

The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) promoted the participation of Mexican producers and agribusinesses in Expo Alimentaria Peru 2015, an event in which they reported short, medium and long-term sales for some 425 million pesos.

The General Coordination of International Affairs and the Agency for Agricultural Market Development and Marketing Services (ASERCA) endorsed the agribusinesses attending Expo Alimentaria Peru so that they could exhibit their products, offer tastings and conduct business tables in order to enter, diversify and consolidate niche markets for Mexican fresh produce, processed products and drinks.

The Mexican companies that participated in this event, which was held in late August 2015 in the City of Lima, presented buyers with: agave inulin, jams made from agave, mezcal, cocoa butter, coconut sweetener, amaranth snacks, granola bars with agave nectar, honey, soy milk, quinoa milk (made from cereals), almond milk, cheese seasoning, sugar-free amaranth sweetened with agave honey, chickpeas, chilli powder, and dried peppers, among others.

Mexican agribusiness producers from Durango, Jalisco, Sinaloa, the State of Mexico, Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Mexico City participated in Expo Alimentaria Peru, the most important food fair in the Andean region.

The Mexican companies developed promotion activities and established contact with entrepreneurs from Peru, Chile, Colombia, Latin America, Asia and Europe during the three-day event.

This yielded useful information about the situation prevailing in the international market and its consumer trends, in addition to prospecting potential markets in the medium and long term.

Mexican agribusiness had a total of 76 business meetings between major supermarket chains, distributors, and importers.

587 exhibitors participated in Expo Alimentaria Peru, 425 from Peru and 162 from other countries. The fair had 15 pavilions distributed in 24,000 square meters.

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, Magali Silva Velarde, Mexico's ambassador in Peru, Ernesto Campos Tenorio, the President of Peru Exporters Association (ADEX), Eduardo Routledge, and the agricultural minister for Latin America of the SAGARPA, Fernando Zuloaga Albarran, among others, attended the opening of the Mexican Pavilion.
