Robert Vogel, Vogel AGF:

"Broccoli very scarce, supply of cauliflower more level"

Broccoli is very scarce at the moment. "Due to the wet and warm periods, a lot of damage was done. There are plots that are 100% destroyed," says Robert Vogel of Vogel AGF from Zwaagdijk. "Many suppliers are struggling to meet their requirements. The prices are around a Euro at the moment. How the market will continue largely depends on the weather. If the wetness remains, the problems will continue for a while. If we get more stable and dry weather, it might be okay."

Cauliflower is also coming out of a period in which there was little product available and a lot of demand for export at the same time. "Poland produced little cauliflower due to the drought and this resulted in a very good demand from countries like Switzerland and Germany. At the moment we are seeing an increased supply and the self sufficiency in our sales countries is also evening out. We are coming from a price level of around 90 cents, but are back at a level of around 50 cents. Whereas the shelf life of the broccoli is mediocre, the quality of the cauliflower is fine."
