Huge increase in prices of organic fruit and vegetables in France

According to a study led by the Association Families Rurales, the average price of organic fruit has increased by 4% and organic vegetables by 8% between 2014 and 2015. Whilst the price difference between organic and conventionally grown fruit is stable, organic fruit is 66% more expensive than non-organic (on average €5.76/kilo). In 2015 an organic vegetable is 75% more expensive than non-organic (on average €3.67/kilo compared to €2.10/kilo).

According to the study, apricots have seen the biggest increase between 2014-2015 at €6.32/kilo compared to €4.52/kilo in 2014, a 40% increase in a year. Peaches have increased by 27% and green beans by 22%. Only organic potatoes (-4%), salad (-8%) and strawberries (-23%) have decreased in prices between 2014-2015.
