Agreement for better security

France and UK together for Fort Calais

British media are reporting that France and the United Kingdom are entering into a cooperation agreement today to combat the migrant crisis in Calais. Additional English police officers will go to France, and a joint control and command centre will be established in Calais. Both parties are also setting aside additional funds for fences, security cameras and infrared cameras. Security for the Channel Tunnel itself will also be improved.

Meanwhile, the situation at the Channel Tunnel is becoming more unsafe. This week, French police defended themselves with tear gas against a group of migrants who were attacking them with stones, and a police vehicle was rammed by a suspected human trafficker. Dutch war correspondent Arnold Karskens recently visited Calais, recording his findings in a guest column on tln.nl.
