Ronnie Moorman, Willem Dijk AGF:

Summer holiday, larger supply causing low grape prices

A few months ago there was a very demanding market for grapes, but the market has now quietened down. "Due to the summer holidays the demand is a bit disappointing. The market is receding a bit, the demand is only still good on the German market. There is quite a lot of supply, besides Italy, both Spain and Portugal are offering white grapes at the moment," says Ronnie Moorman of Willem Dijk AGF. "The prices are at a level of 13 Euro. I hope the market becomes more 'friendly' over the next few weeks."

Willem Dijk AGF will receive Italian white and blue grapes from the Victoria, Italia and Red Globe varieties until the end of November. "The expectation was that the Italian grape production would be 30% lower, but that doesn't mean 30% less will come to the Netherlands. I expect the decrease in supply to be limited," says Ronnie. "The quality of the Italian grapes is fine, well packed with a coarse grain. People are trying to switch to seedless grapes more and more, but connoisseurs know how to appreciate the Victoria grapes."
